If you have an eating disorder, it’s extremely important to take care of your oral health. If your disorder involves throwing up, the acid in your bile can erode and destroy your teeth. So, to help you keep your smile in tip-top shape, our Bertha D. Bravo, Dentist PC team recommends doing the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial mouthwash. While you brush, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Please feel free to use a flossing product of your choice.

-Use baking soda: After throwing up, please do NOT brush your teeth. Brushing will just worsen the effects of the acid. Instead, rinse your mouth with baking soda to neutralize the stomach acid.

-Visit your dentist: Make sure you visit your dentist regularly for your dental cleanings and exams. Your dental visits will help you keep your smile in tip-top shape and will also help you prevent tooth decay and other dental issues.

Now, please remember that your dentist, Dr. Bertha Bravo, and our team are not encouraging eating disorders in Hempstead, New York.
