The holidays are coming up, and that means parties, family, and fun. But one thing you don’t want this holiday season is a cavity! Here are ways to prepare to make sure your teeth stay merry and bright.
Brushing Two by Two: We all know to brush our teeth, but do you brush twice a day, for two minutes each session? 2×2. Easy to remember, and foundational for good dental health.
Flossing Well: The ADA recommends you floss once a day, for 2-3 minutes per session. Use about an 18-inch piece of floss, using a new section of thread for each tooth. Go completely around each tooth, including the back molars! If you are newly beginning your flossing habit, a little discomfort is common–but if it lasts for more than a couple weeks, call your dentist.
Great Food: Strong teeth come not only from how you clean your mouth, but what you put into your body! Foods rich in calcium, such as cheese and plain yogurt, are excellent for oral health. Can’t have dairy? Incorporate other calcium-rich foods, such as beans and dark leafy greens, into your daily diet.
Regular Dental Visits: Before the holidays get in full swing: remember to schedule your regular dental visit for the season. This allows your doctor to have up-to-date information on your teeth, as well as catch any problems early.
